Public service announcement

Hey y’all!

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you all for reading my blog and for all the messages you send me.

I never intended this to be any more than a personal record and a way to keep my friends and family up to date with what I’m doing, but I seem to have reached a far wider audience and I really appreciate the support.

I read all the messages I get sent, although I’m sorry I don’t have time to reply to everyone – but I will try and get around to it after the hike! As your comments are going into the public space I think it’s appropriate that I read them first, so if you comment and it doesn’t show up immediately, don’t worry, I will have been notified by email and I will be able to read and approve the comments when I have cell service.

I love reading what you have to say, and when people tell me they have been inspired to take their own big adventure or just get outside for the weekend my heart swells with pride. It makes me so happy.

The blog is running about 3 weeks behind of where I am, this is for two reasons. 1 the blog is really hard to keep up to date with limited cell service and 2 for my own safety – so people don’t come and track me down, which has happened to other bloggers before. Scary.

If you want to be kept a little more up to date (or get some spoilers!) you can follow me on Instagram: @masonalexandra

I also wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated to Just A Drop so far. Especially to Norris, Victoria, Sharon and Siobhan who have all donated more than once. Thank you to all the anonymous people, all the strangers, friends and family…oh wait, none of my family have donated yet…come on family!!

Every time I receive a donation it is a huge morale boost. I have raised £642.73 so far for Just A Drop who provide clean water solutions to some of the millions of people who still don’t have clean water to drink. You can’t live without clean water ( read more about what they do here). But I am still quite far off my £1 a mile target having walked over 1800 miles…

Remember every penny raised goes to the charity, I am funding everything myself. And you can donate in pounds, dollars, euros, yen, lira, peso…

Just £1 can provide a child with clean water for up to ten years. If a lot of people give a little we can make a big difference.

The blog is a total labour of love. It takes up a huge amount of my time, sometimes I just want to crawl into my tent at the end of the day, eat and sleep. But I write every night (on my phone, using my thumbs so apologies for all the spelling and autocorrect mistakes!). Honestly, it’s harder than the hiking! By then end of the trail I will have written about 100,000 words which is the same length as a good book. If you’ve enjoyed reading it then maybe consider donating the cost of a book to Just A Drop

And lastly, the WordPress app is, in a word, shit. It constantly crashes, it has so many bugs and glitches that today, on my zero day, I gave up with it to save my sanity. In a week or so the scheduled posts will run out and there may be a little gap in the blog. But don’t worry, I will catch up eventually, for now though I’ve just got to keep walking…

  1. I love reading your blog and am in awe of your dogged determination for such a wonderful cause. Best wishes for your health and well-being. And you still have the delights of New Zealand to come!

  2. “Honestly, it’s harder than the hiking!”

Frankly, I don’t know how you keep it up. It has to be as tiring. There was NO WAY that I could keep a journal or even consider writing a blog at the end of the day. After eating, it was lights out for me. I could not even be bothering checking the map for the next day’s hiking profile or possible end point. Too tired.

    Hat’s off to you!
