Update April 2018:

Sherpa hasn’t been found but the search continues. For more information search for the group ‘Bring Kris Fowler/Sherpa Home’ on Facebook.

18th November 2016

There is a missing hiker. His name is Kris Fowler, trail name Sherpa. He was hiking north on the PCT and the last confirmed sighting of him was on 12th October 2016 in Packwood (a small town about 20 miles west of the PCT on highway 12). He was given a ride back to the trailhead around 3:30pm and is thought to have headed north from White Pass.

From the information I have read, Kris was a strong, experienced and competent hiker, of sound mind and in regular contact with his family.

He purchased a blue poncho in Packwood, he hiked in sandals but it was possible that he changed to trail runners in anticipation of the snow ahead. His backpack is orange.

I have had several enquiries as to whether I have seen Kris. I would love to be able to provide some useful information but on the day Kris was last seen in Washington I was nearly 700 miles south as the crow flies in Independence, California.

I took the photos from the Facebook page ‘Bring Kris Fowler/Sherpa Home’ where there is a lot more information about him and about search areas. I realise not everyone is on facebook so I hope that sharing the story here will reach out to some more people.

If anyone has any information please go to the facebook group or call the number on the flyer above.

Thank you.
